The Wizards ended their recent slump with a huge 91-78 win over the eastern conference’s best team, the Indiana Pacers. Marcin Gortat played a huge role in the victory, doing all of the dirty work defensively, on the glass, and in the offensive paint.
He finished the game with his 31st double-double of the season, going for 17 points and 12 rebounds. He also added two blocks and a steal to his performance. He, along with John Wall, set the tone defensively in the first quarter and carried the Wizards to an early lead that would never be surrendered. His interior presence was a hindrance to Indiana big man Roy Hibbert, and deterred anyone else from getting to the bucket.
In the third quarter, Gortat wiped the offensive glass squeaky clean, gathering four offensive rebounds and putting two of them back for points. He and Wall worked the pick and roll beautifully on different occasions throughout the game, leading to huge one-handed slams by Gortat.
His intensity on both sides of the ball is the reason why he is Crown on the Rock’s ‘King of the Game.’
